Part 1 SME in the economy of the country

Different countries have different criteria for classifying organizations to small and medium-sized. It can be one criterion, such as the number of employees in the enterprise or the maximum amount of income received by the company. Such practice exists in the United Kingdom, Mexico, Greece. In some countries, such as Portugal, for this purpose, there are two criteria: the company's turnover and number of employees. In the European Union criteria for classifying organizations to small and medium-sized businesses are written in the Recommendations of the Commission of the European Communities 2003/361 / EC. It can be attributed to the company SME if its performance does not exceed the maximum threshold value or annual turnover or number of employees or annual total balance. In addition to this they take into account the degree of independence of the company from large firms or groups. It is important to note that these criteria are just recommendations. Recommendation of the Commission of the European Communities 2003/361 / EC contains only limits performance and the EU Member States themselves have the right to fix the lower limits in accordance with the objectives of its policies.
