Faculty of Philology is one of the oldest faculties of the university. The first teachers of Russian language and literature were educated in the Vyatka Institute of Education, trained in literature and art. Faculty of Russian Language and Literature was established in the 1934-1935 academic year, in 2000 - renamed the Faculty of Philology.

Decane of our faculty is Litsareva Xenia Stanislavovna, Candidate of Philological Sciences Associate Professor.

The faculty includes: cathedra of Russian Language (Head of Department - Dr. of Philology. Sciences, prof. S.V. Chernova), cathedra of Russian Literature (Head of Department - Dr. ped. Sciences, prof. EO Galicia), cathedra of Foreign Literature and English (Head of Department - Dr. of Philology. Sciences, prof. O. Polyakov).

Student life at our faculty is diverse and interesting, as our students know what they are doing the world around them. Students begin to show their activity and creativity from the first days of studies, participating in the marathon, "I am frosh!".
Students are always original on the "Theatrical Festival". The performances are always bright and interesting, they show students their artistic abilities.
At the faculty has been a tradition to hold literary hours, which is going to want to see a lot of bright and artistic performances of students, staging of works of art.
One of the most popular competitions students of our faculty is the "Student Spring".
May 24 is a Day of Slavic writing and culture. In this day students along with faculty faculty spend on the streets of the city share of "Love and know their own language and culture."
Students with teachers involved in the literary and educational expeditions, visiting historic sites associated with the life of the great poets and writers.
Philologists and active in sports. They play volleyball and basketball. In 2008, the championship in basketball one-year students, our women's team won. First-year students in the marathon, "I - freshman!" won the game on the ground "Movement is life."
