Ценный старый мастер

Однажды очень богатый Американец зашел к Английскому художнику и сказал:

«Сэр, я втайне приобрел ценную картину 16 века. Я знаю, что Английское правительство не позволит мне вывезти ее, но у меня есть план, как избежать этого. Я хочу, чтобы вы нарисовали картину, неважно какую, поверх работы старого мастера. Когда я приеду в Нью-Йорк, то смогу с легкостью снять слой с вашей картиной с холста, не повредив нижней картины».

Художник согласился и нарисовал картину Лондонской газовой станции. После этого Американец переправил холст в Америку и отправил его в фирму, чтобы снять картину художника.

Но спустя неделю он получил телеграмму из фирмы, в ней говорилось:

«Мы сняли слой с картиной Лондонской газовой станции, а также и старого мастера и сейчас занимаемся портретом Королевы Виктории. Где вы хотите, чтобы мы остановились?»

A poor man had a parrot which could only say the words: “There is no doubt about it”. Its name was Poll and all day long he called out: “There is no doubt about it”. To every question Poll always gave the same reply. One day its master came to the market to sell it. “Who will buy my parrot? - He cried. Twenty pounds for my parrot”. A man hearing the high price that was asked, turned to the parrot and said: “Poll, are you worth twenty pounds?” “There is no doubt about it”, was Poll's reply. The man was so pleased with this answer that he bought the bird and carried it home. Some times later he was sorry for his bargain. Standing behind the parrot's cage he said: “What a fool I was to throw away so much money!” “There is no doubt about it” - cried the bird.
