Historical fiction

Two children were running through the forest. One of them was a follower and was behind the leader. “Faster, we don't have a lot of time”, said a tall boy with blonde hair. “I am trying! By the way George, where are we going?” said the smaller one. “You will see”.

“So, let's do it right now!” said George excitingly. John looked at him with angry and at the same time caring eyes. “Are you serious? I just told you that we don't have a lot of time! We should be punctual or Ms. Johnson will be mad and she'll give us zeros”.
They came and stood near the old and tall trees. “Do you like it?” said George and pointed to a tree house, which had a balcony and big holes in the roof. “We will fix it and play cards there with the guys”, said John.

They ran back with smiles on their faces to the school.

On the next day they brought some nails, woods, rope and instruments like hammer and saw in cart. First of all, George started to fix the balcony and John was fixing the roof and used a rope to keep himself from falling down. “John, listen, promise me… John! Hey!” screamed George. “What do you want?” yelled back John. “Promise me that you will not tell anybody about this tree house, except William and David!” George screamed again. “Who do you think I am?” said John.

After a week of hard work, the tree house was fixed. They were running to the tree house, but now with two other boys, William and David. William was of average height with long dirty blonde hair and David was an overweight guy with short black hair. They were all friends since 4th grade and spent a lot of time together.

They stopped. “Look at that!” David yelled excitingly. They stood in front of the tree house. It was a cold morning, and the Sun breached through the small holes inside the tree house. Squirrels' shadows emerged on the branches of the trees and cuckoo's knocks were heard from afar. The guys looked at each other with smiles and climbed up the stairs.

There was not a lot of space inside, but for guys it was just like a dream fort. They brought a recorder, posters, table games and other stuff for fun. They had chairs and used a log like a table. To pick up things they used a rope, one end of the rope they tied to thing that they wanted to pick up, and they pulled it from the other end of the rope.

Everything was perfect. They came after school to the tree house, did their homework, played and went back home before it was getting dark. They were a group of four people that were together every minute, George, John, William and David. It was Friday. The guys came after school and started playing cards. “Your turn, John” said William.

“Wait… How did you do that? Hmm… you are cheating!” said John. “You are cheating!” repeated John.

“Go cry, baby” said William.

“It's just a game,” joined David.

“Shut up! Both of you!” screamed John.

“John… They are right. It's just a game. Don't react like that” said George.

“Are you on their side? I thought that you are my

Best friend! You know what, I'll find a new friends! And they will be better than you!” John looked at them and went back home.

On next Monday, John didn't go to the tree house, nor did he go the next days. He tried to find new friends but it didn't work out very well.

John was sitting in a dining room in his house and just looked at his French fries with crossed arms. “What is wrong, honey?” asked his mother in a caring voice.

“Nothing…” John muttered. He stood up and went upstairs to his room.

At the same George was feeling regretful about his fight with John. He didn't want their relationship to end like this. He got dressed, put his shoes on and quietly left his home.
