Aims and objectives

The course objectives are: to acquaint students with the systems of international relation and their history since the end of the 19th century until the end of the 20 century, and political history of the world and the history of international relations, sharpen the student's skills in historical interpretation, research and writing.

Through this course, students will be expected to understand the transition from imperial-colonial politics and economics of the 19th century to the polarity and post-colonial international systems of the 20th century and beyond. Students are required to be aware of international relations events in the context of the political history and major international conflicts and cooperative efforts.

Classroom format

Class sessions will involve a variety of teaching techniques. Much of this time will be devoted to lecture on and discussion of material related to the assigned reading. I will present the topics in a supplemental (to the assigned readings) and illustrative manner (transparencies, videotapes, audiotapes, pass-arounds, etc.) to permit you to better understand the textbook topics. These presentations will be integrated with classroom discussions to encourage active (not just passive) learning
