Mendel in his experiments with garden peas showed that many signs of organisms are not inherited as a single complex, but discrete, independently of each other. As a result of crossing signs or features of the body do not disappear, and reappear in the offspring in certain numerical ratios. Mendel laid the foundation of the doctrine of individual symptoms and determining their development of factors of inheritance, which was later renamed as genes. Each gene controls the development of one or more symptoms. Since chromosomes are paired in the body, every cell in the body contains two genes of each species. Genes are located on the chromosome in a linear sequence and in each pair of homologous chromosomes the genes are located in the same order. Two genes, localized in homologous chromosomes and controls two contrasting (mutually exclusive) feature, called as allelomorphs, or alleles.
