Poker is a card game where the goal of a person is to win the money by gathering the highest possible poker hand, using 5 cards, or forcing all competitors to surrender or fold to participate in the game. The game comes with fully or closed cards or in other words the opponents can't see cards of each other. Specific rules may vary depending on the version of Poker, but in this article I am going to talk about mathematics in version of poker, which is called Hold'em. To begin with, I would like to mention that Poker is not based on pure luck; it is a game where the probability takes the huge role. When to use Poker Math… To count the probability we need to know how many cards are used in Poker. To calculate this lets write all cards that is used in Hold'em: 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,J,Q,K,A – 13 “values” of cards, where each card has 4 suits: ♠Spades, ♥hearts, ♣clubs and ♦diamonds. Now lets find how many cards are there by multiplying: 13x4=52. Rules of Hold'em. Card combinations & Pot: Card combinations & Pot makes Poker Mathematical game. Blah blah blah… As we found earlier there are 52 cards used in Poker. Now lets find out what is the chance of getting combination, which is called pair, during cards distribution. As a Poker player you will get 2 cards at start we will look at probability of getting: 2 cards with same value, but different suits: 2♠/2♥ 3♣/3♥ 4♠/4♦ etc.. 2 cards with different values, but same suit: 2♥/5♥ Q♠/K♠ 10♣/J♣ etc..
