Peculiarities:

-/ac/ is open and retracted as / a/ (bad, back)

-/a:/ is fronted and is like [æ] (glass, laugh, after)

-[uJ used instead of [Ë] (cup, love, much)

- [ou] is pronounces as [o:] go home

The Scotish type of EnglishPronunciation

- / ir/, /er/, [Ër] used instead of 3: (bird)

-[u] used instead of / au/ (down)

-does not distinguish between/ ae/ and /a:/

-All vowels are short

-The voiceless labiovelar [w] (which—witch, whine—wine)

-the very Russian like sound [õ](loch)

(some of them are Cockney, Geordie (Newcastle). Scouse (Liverpool), Cornish (Cornwall)

-/cei/ reminds /ai/ (take, late) -/ æ/ sounds like /Ý/(bag)

-/ ou/ is [æu] (potatoes) -/ p, t, k / are heavy aspirated

-[ŋ] sounds like /n/ (something)

Peculiarities

-[t∫] is voiced between vowel and sonant (bottle) -[l] is always dark

-[∫] is voiced in words like excursion, version, Asia, Persia

/ h/ is dropped in weak syllables -[j] is omitted before / u / (duty, student, new)

-vowels are not differenced by their length

-[æ] used instead of /a:/ (pass, class) -/ u∂/ is monophthongized (usually)

-has its own prosodic patterns

Phonetics studies the sound system of the language, or segmental phonemes, word stress, syllabic structure and intonation. So it is primarily concerned with the expression levelof the language.

 

Phonetics also deals with the content levelbecause only meaningful sound sequences are regarded as speech.
