7. Answer the following questions.

 

· How would you characterize the four members of the company a) being children and b) being mature adults? Are there any changes evident? If yes, what are those?

· Focus on George's character and his inner world. What is the latter like, do you think?

· What is the characters' attitude towards Matilda? How does it characterize them, their upbringing in particular?

· Do you reckon the marriage of such people as Kathleen and George was a good idea? Why do you think so?

· Do you consider Needle's murder premeditated or not? Give your arguments on the matter.

· What was Needle's ‘lifestyle' like while being a ghost?

· Do you believe Needle was angry with George for what he had done? Give your reasons on the matter.

· In your opinion, why did Needle's spirit turn into a ghost? What did she need to rest in piece?

 

8.Characterize Needle while being a) a human and b) a ghost. Do these two of her impostures have anything in common? If yes, what is it exactly?

9.They say everything ends at its starting point. Do you think it's true about the story under discussion? Where can we observe the case of the so-called ‘deja vu'?

10.Muriel Spark is a worthy follower of the English satirical school.

Satire is an artistic form, chiefly literary and dramatic, in which human or individual vices, follies, abuses, or shortcomings are held up to censure by means of ridicule, derision, burlesque, irony, or other methods, sometimes with an intent to bring about improvement.

Study the text fort the evident cases of satire. Present them in class.

11.Our history abounds in scary stories about ghosts. Do you know any of them? Give your examples.

 

12.Invent a ‘ghost' story of your own (20 sentences). Be ready to present it in class.
