Which sector do you intend to work in or do you already work in? How do you 'fit to the total picture?

How many people in the tertiary sector have you already spoken to today relevant to college or work, shopping, eating, and so on)? What about people in the other two sectors? When did you last talk to someone who grew or produced something for example?

• In which sector are the most companies, businesses or enterprises in your region
located?

• Which areas of the economy in your country are changing most?

• Which areas are the most important?

• Which sectors can we not do without?

• What are the leading activities and enterprises in each sector?

1. The dictionary defines economics as 'the study of the production of wealth and the consumption of goods and services in a society'. List five economic issues relating to production and consumption that your national or local government has to deal with today.

2. John Maynard Keynes, one of the most influential economists of the 20th century said, 'The ideas of economists and political philosophers, both when they are right and when they are wrong, are more powerful than is commonly understood. Indeed the world is ruled by little else.

What do you think Keynes meant by this statement? Do you agree or disagree? Give reasons to support your opinion.

3. The main concept of economics is scarcity. How does scarcity affect your life? Provide several examples of items you had to do without because of limited resources, and explain how you adjusted to this situation.
