The accident happened when the inbound tanker collided with a medium-sized container heading out to sea in a shipping channel five miles from Jebel Ali Port (Dubai). The tanker named the Kashmir was carrying a liquid used to make plastic. The vessel was heading from Iran to the UAE.

The other vessel was a container ship the Saman by name. The ship was flying a Singapore flag. Container ships typically carry different cargo packed into containers.

The container ship collided with the tanker and set it on fire in a shipping channel off the coast of Dubai. There wasn't a serious hole in the hull but there was a great fire. The ship's rescue team arrived at the accident site at utmost speed. They started putting out the fire immediately.

Later the Dubai police helicopters and boats arrived to help with the rescue effort. They tried to evacuate the tanker's crew. But during the rescue operations two sailors fell overboard. The team released lifebuoys, lowered the lifeboats, pulled the casualties out of water and transferred them safely ashore. Some hours later the fire was extinguished. And the emergency team cleared the damaged tanker from the accident site.

As to the container ship the tug boats were able to pull it and its crew to safety shortly after the accident occurred. The ship's damage was not too serious.
