Первые современные монеты появились примерно 2500 лет назад в Средиземноморье, там, где сейчас расположена Турция. Поначалу монеты были просто кусочками серебра, но кто-то где-то сделал круглую, плоскую монету, и этот дизайн остался.

Понадобилось долгое время, пока появились бумажные деньги. Они были изобретены китайцами около 1200 лет тому назад.

Потребовалось много столетий, прежде чем идея распространилась по миру. Например, первые бумажные банкноты в Европе появились в 17 веке в Швеции.
