WORD PROCESSING

TASK 1

You are going to read an article about word processing. 6 sentences have been removed from the article. Choose from the sentences A-G the one which fits each gap 1-6.There is one extra sentence which you do not need to use.

A. For this task you will need to go to File using the mouse and click on New, appearing on the top of the program.

B. You can use Word Count to count the number of words or characters in your word processing file.

C. They usually have the variety of signals, functions and other features.

D. The pop up box will ask you to choose the folder.

E. You can give an appropriate name to your document which you can remember for retrieving and editing any time in future.

It was not until the early 20th century that people were using dusty typewriters with its sticking keys and ink spills. With the invention of computers in mid 20th century, it is essential for people to learn the use of word processor for the purpose of writing. We need to master the program in order to generate reports, articles, reviews, essays or even novels.

Efficient Word processors are used by many people, especially by students, writers, desktop publishers, and anyone who requires good writing and spell-checking capabilities. (1)_______Out of the many existing word processing programs you need to decide which is best suitable for your studies, creative work or business needs. There are a few programs allowing the author in maintaining tabs to work on multiple documents.

You need not spend on purchasing the latest software available in the market. (2)______. Instead, if you have a simple program on your computer and you want to use it just for writing purposes, you may follow the mentioned guidelines.

Creating a file

First, create a new file. (3)_______. This will give you a new document to write in. Begin writing from where your cursor is blinking. There are a few tools available within the software toolbar that will help you with monitoring formats, keeping track of word counts and saving or opening new as well as existing documents. (4) ______. For this go to the toolbar of the program menu and click Insert. This will give you a list of options that you want to insert: Page Numbers, Date and Time, Symbol etc. You can click on either of the options to get it on your word file. You can also insert tables in your word file, by clicking on Tables on your toolbar menu button.

Checking the language

On the toolbar of the program menu there is an option called Tools. On the drop down menu here you will get Word Count, Spelling and Grammar, thesaurus and dictionary tools including several other options. (5)_______.

Formatting

Finally, you will format your file using Format on your toolbar menu. This will help you to format paragraphs, adding bullet points, changing the style of fonts, changing text colors, as well as changing the border and shading color of your word document.

Saving your file

If you are done with this, you will have to save your file. Go to File menu, scroll down to the save feature and click on Save option to save your document. This will give you a pop up box that requests you to define location of the file to be saved to and giving it a name. (6)_______.
