Exercise 1. Read the following text “What Makes the Weather?” and fill in the gaps with the words given below and then listen to it to check yourself:

Weather is the 1 … of the atmosphere in terms of heat, pressure, 2 …, and moisture. These are the elements of which the 3 … is made. Where the atmosphere 4 … to near vacuum, high above the 5 …, there is no weather. But near the 6 …of the earth, where the atmosphere is dense and 7 …, you see the ever-changing, dramatic, and often violent weather show.

But it takes more than air to 8 … weather. If the earth's atmosphere were never heated, 9 …, or moved about, there would be 10 … weather — or, more properly, there would be no 11 … in the weather. There would be no winds, no changes in air 12 …, no storms, rain, or snow.

Heat is the 13 … that mixes the atmosphere to make weather. All weather changes are 14 … about by temperature changes in 15 … parts of the atmosphere.
