Pattern

S + must smth.

 

In this meaning ‘must' is not used in negative sentences. ‘Evidently' and ‘probably' are used instead.

e.g. Evidently, she didn't know our address.

He must have misunderstood you. – Напевно, він неправильно зрозумів вас.

He must have failed to receive the invitation. – Напевно, він не отримав запрошення.

‘Must' isn't used with the reference to the future. ‘Evidently ‘'probably', ‘to be sure', ‘to be (un)likely' are used in this meaning.

e.g. Probably, they won't come./ They are not likely to come.

Evidently, you'll see him at the party.

We are unlikely to write a test today.
