And today it is still beautiful as before. It is filled with the fragrance of the birch grove. But will it be so beautiful tomorrow? We can see the great ocean of the bright foliage. The river is flowing not so quickly now, the water murmur is hardly caught. The clean river water is shining in the sun. The autumn came and the nature changed its colours. The air is clean and limpid. The birds are still babbling merrily but the singing of many voices in summer is no more heard. I.I. Levitan showed us the splendid fading of nature. Both the adults and the children are working in the field today. The river banks and the light snow-white clouds which are floating in the sky like ships are being reflected in the still water.

The nature is still making us happy with the last rays of the autumn sun. They have some time before the first snow but they should be in a hurry because there is still a lot of work to do.

The Russian countryside was the same as we see it in the artist's time. In the village behind the birch grove the harvesting time is in its full swing. The artist used the combination of rich yellow, brown and orange colours.
