a. in July 2013 heat wave temperature records that stood for over 100 years were broken. While many people enjoyed the warm weather, e.g. in Brighton, many elderly and sick people died in the heat.

 

b. Bocastle suffered extensive damage after a flash flood caused by an exceptional amount of rain that fell over the course of five hours in an afternoon. Seventy five cars and five caravans, six buildings and several boats were washed into the sea; approximately 100 homes and businesses were destroyed.

 

c. A tornado hit Kensal Green sweeping through several streets over the course of a minute, injuring 6 people, and causing big damage to at least 100 properties. 29 homes were declared unfit for habitation.

 

d. Horse and hounds were once a more common sight than they are now. Since the Hunting Act of 2004, fox hunting with dogs has been banned in England and Wales. The issue continues to be an extremely divisive one among the British public.

 

e. Terrible flooding occurred throughout the UK in June and July 2007, killing 11 people. Military authorities described the rescue efforts as the biggest in peacetime Britain. Estimated damages cost over £2bn.
