GRAMMAR REVIEW: The ing-form of the verb.

We use the -ing form:

1. as a noun:Painting is one of my favorite hobbies.

2. after prepositions: He apologized for being rude.

3. after love, like, hate , dislike, prefer , enjoy to express general preference

He prefers watchingTV to a dancing.

4. after certain verbs such as consider, avoid, fancy, mind, spend, finish, admit etc.

I don't mind going to the cinema.

5. after go for activities. We never go swimming anymore.

6. after it's no use, it's no good, be busy, can't help, can't stand, look forward to, be/get used to, have difficulty in, I feel like etc.Ican't help feelingnervous during exams.

1. I feel like ___something tasty.

2. We're ____forward to hearing from you

3. He is busy____on the computer.

4. Tom is keen on ___coins. His collection is really large.

5. I'm used to ____much fruit.

6. The film was great! It's worth ____.

7. I couldn't help ____looking at those kittens!

8. Do you mind my ____the window?

9. We had difficulty in___way back.

10. They avoid ____the mountains any more.

Exercise 2. Put the verbs into the –ing form or the infinitive:

1. I really enjoy (meet) people from different countries.

2. We're used to (travel) around on own without (spend) too much money.

3. He didn't mind (take) buses to get to our premises.

4. I'd like (go) somewhere interesting tonight.

5. I need more money. I must (change) my job.

6. I planned (visit) our branch in Italy, but couldn't.

7. During the trip we avoided (hitchhike) because we didn't want to risk.

8. The car is the best here. It's worth (buy).

9. The boss said you must (do) it now.

10. I feel like (watch) a comedy show.
