Exercise 1. Put the following sentences into reported speech:

“They always meet for lunch on Fridays,” she said.

“How long have you worked for this company?' Miss Payne asked her secretary.

“Was Ronald at work yesterday?”the manager asked.

“I might be a bit late tonight because we're having an important meeting,” James explained to Hilary.

“You'll win if you practice every day,” he told her.

“Did you read that article about Coca-Cola Company?” Tom asked.

“Why has he been working so hard?” she wanted to know.

 

Exercise 2. Write the sentences in reported speech, using the correct form of each verb once only:
