I) Asking and describing dimensions of objects

PROBLEM SOLVING

1. Fulfill the table below with appropriate words:

2. Make questions and give answer with the words from the above table about the dimensions of any object around you

Example: How high is the board?

What is the thickness of your book?

3. To ask and describe the dimensions of objects, you can use either nouns or their corresponding adjectives as in (2), along with suitable interrogative pronouns How or What. Then, we will have the following patterns:

a) Asking: (HOW) high/wide/long/thick/deep/high/thick

b) Asking (WHAT) is the height/width/length/the depth/the thickness

c) Answering: the height/width/length/the depth/the thickness is/are

d) Asking: what are the measurements of ….?

e) Answering: ….. is/ are ………… in height/width/length/depth/thickness or ….. has/have the height/width/length/depth/thickness of …

Note: With this way of describing, the question may be formed from the verb to measure to ask for the measurements of objects.

4. Now, describe the dimensions of the following object.

b/ w = 0.7cm h = 0.35cm l = 1cm
