1. I asked my friend, 'How do you feel after your holiday ?'

2. Jack's father asked him, 'Who are you writing a letter to?'

3. 'Jack is on the terrace. He is playing chess with his brother,' says Nelly.

4. I saw a cloud of smoke and asked, 'What is burning?'

5. I asked her, 'Who gave you that watch?'

6. 'I can't understand what he is talking about,' replies Kate.

7. 'You have known me since childhood,' Peter said to his friend.

8. Tom asked his brother, 'Who did you visit in the hospital?'

9. 'When the doorbell rang, I was reading a book,' said Alice.

10. 'I have been waiting for you for an hour,' John said.

11. The teacher asked the students, 'How much time do spend on homework every week?'

12. 'You're the best assistant I've ever had, Sally,' he said.

Exercise 9 Report what people say, using reporting verbs in brackets.
