Date: 2015-10-07; view: 434.

Differential- diagnostic signs of fluorosis and caries at the stain stage, stage of hypoplasia of the enamel.

Sign Fluorosis Acute initial caries Enamel hypoplasia
Time of appearance Before eruption of the tooth After eruption of the tooth Before eruption of the tooth.
The teeth affected….. Often permanent Both permanent and temporary Frequently permanent
Localization Vestibular, lingual, masticatory Fissures, contact surfaces. Vestibular and lingual surface
Number of stains Multiple Single, sometimes numerous Often single
Stain development Stays for all life Disappears rarely (after remineralizing therapy). usually on the stain place there appears superficial caries Doesn't disappear
Permeability for the dye Isn't dyed Is dyed Isn't dyed
Sign Fluorosis Superficial caries Hypoplasia
Complaints Aesthetic defect Short-lasting pain from the chemical and thermal stimuli. Aesthetic defect
Localization Vestibular, lingual or masticatory surfaces of molars Fissures and other usual deepening, contact surface, teeth necks. Vestibular and lingual surface as well as masticatory surface of the molars.
The key signs of lesion Enamel affected with small or large erosions, “ enamel splitting”. The enamel surface is rough. The probe is can't reach deeper. Chalky stains with smooth surface.
Permeability for the dyes Isn't dyed Is dyed Isn't dyed

The local treatment is to be performed taking into account the fluorosis form. At the presence of pigmented stains on the front teeth, when these stains produce cosmetic defects, some authors recommend hard tissue whitening with the subsequent remineralization.

At the erosive and destructive forms of fluorosis the anatomical dental shape may be restored with the composite materials. In case of considerable destruction of the crown dental part we must apply prosthetic treatment methods.

Control questions:

1.What diseases of children and at what age may be a cause of systemic hypoplasia of the permanent teeth?

2. What are the causes of local hypoplasia? Describe the clinical picture.

3. What is dental fluorosis? What are its' clinical signs?

4. Define the treatment tactics at fluorosis and enamel hypoplasia.
