The Manager's Role

Management and Managers

“Management is the process of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling the efforts of organization members and of using all other organizational resources to achieve stated organizational goals”.[1] These resources include not only general economic categories like labor, people, but information, technology as well.

Management is considered to be a process, as all managers do some certain activities in order to achieve their goals. They may use all the resources of their company (people, finance, equipment, information etc) fulfilling their four key activities such as planning, organizing, leading and controlling.

Planning involves some methods, plans and logic. It helps managers to think through their goals and actions in advance.

Organizing implies coordination of the human and materialistic resources of the company. The effectiveness of the company depends, mainly, on this coordination, moreover, on a manager's ability to organize this coordination.

Leading means the way a manager has an influence on his subordinates, gets on with them. Establishing the good atmosphere inside the company is the main goal of any manager.

Controlling implies a manager's attempts to see how his company is reaching its goals. If something is wrong, the manager has to find another way of its development.
