PERCEPTION OF SOUND

Date: 2015-10-07; view: 356.

Psychoacoustics – is a science, which study the perception of sound by human being. Knowledge of features of hearing system of human allows take into account important for hearing characteristics of algorithms for processing of audio-signals. For example, it is possible to achieve a high degree of sound compression in psychoacoustic codec's of mp3 type. Conclusions of psychoacoustics are based on researches of ear physiology and on large amount of data, obtained in result of psychoacoustic experiments. Data, obtained in result of experiments, i.e. series of listening of test signals in special controlled conditions, statistically are processed and reflect averaged information about human hearing. Individual properties of hearing can differ from average statistical.

Hearing system

Hearing system of human starts from outer ear.(fig. 18). Oscillations of air pressure, coming to ear and hearing channel, go to tympanic membrane and then through the system of small bones – to the organ namely cochlear. This helically twisted tube is important for sound perception, it divides complicate sounds on frequency components. External part of cochlear is connected by bones, which transmit sound vibrations to it.
