A history major at Drake University in Des Moines wanted to pursue a corporate career after graduation. He was uncertain how to combine history and business until he read an article in The Wall Street Journal about a corporate historian at Anheuser Busch & Cos. Inc. By reviewing past records, the historian had realized that a planned manufacturing change had been tried and failed 30 years earlier. He alerted company officials and prevented them from making an expensive mistake. The history major planned to write to the historian immediately to express his interest in the field, but didn't get around to it until the end of the semester. A few weeks later, the historian wrote back, thanking the senior for his interest. The letter went on to say that if he'd written sooner, he might've been considered for a high-paying summer internship at the company.
