Relationships

FOCUS ON a polite way of introducing a third person: gentlemen are introduced to ladies. Younger people are introduced to older. Persons of a lower rank or status are introduced to those of a higher rank or status.

Answering an introduction

Introducing yourself

Excuse me, I don't think we've met before. I'm...

You must he Ray.

That's right. Ray Starr.

I'm Fred Harrison, I've been looking forward to meeting you.

Pleased to meet you.

I've been waiting to meet you.

We've already met, (actually).

I'm delighted to meet, you/to make your acquaintance.

Nice/good to meet you.

De1ighted.

Hi!

Say what relation is:

your mother's sister

your father's brother
your sister's daughter
your aunt's son
your brother's wife
your sister's husbandTO YOU
your husband's parents

your aunt's daughter

your brother's son

your sister's daughter

your uncle's son

your parents' parents

SPEAK ABOUT YOUR RELATIVES USING THE FOLLOWING TEXTS AS MODELS

a) Nick, Ted and Tom are brothers. Nick is the youngest in the family.
He is only ten. Ted is Nick's elder brother. He is 5 years older than
Mick. He is in his teens, 15 to be exact. And Tom is the eldest in the
family. He is nearly 20.

b) Jack is nearly 22. He is much older than his groupmates. I think he
is the oldest of them.

c) My friend and I are the same age. We came of age last year. We are
both college students.

Make up dialogues in analogy:

a) - Is your brother (friend, cousin, groupmate) married?

- He isn't. He is single and lives with his parents (in Kiev, a long
way from here, alone, etc.)

b) - Your sister (cousin, groupmate) is married, isn't she?

- She is. She married her groupmate last year (last month) (boyfriend,
former schoolmate, an architect, a doctor, etc.)

c) - Who is your sister (friend, cousin, groupmate) married to?

- She is married to a doctor (engineer, lawyer, architect, pilot etc.) They got married a month (three months) ago; a year (three years) ago.
