a) necessity, obligation äîëæåíñòâîâàíèå must (n't), (don't) have to, be to, should (n't) –äîëæåí
b) ability, possibility ñïîñîáíîñòü, âîçìîæíîñòü can (‘t), could, be able to – ìî÷ü, óìåòü
c) permission ðàçðåøåíèå may, be allowed to – ìî÷ü, èìåòü ðàçðåøåíèå

Models:

a) obligation

You must(have to, should) do this work carefully (äîëæåí).

You had todo this work yesterday (äîëæåí áûë).

He is tovisit our country next summer (äîëæåí, ïëàíèðóåò).

You mustn'tcopy (íå äîëæåí ñïèñûâàòü, çàïðåùàåòñÿ).

You shouldn't tell lies (íå äîëæåí).

b) possibility, ability

He can(is able to) translate the text himself (ìîæåò).

He could(was able to) translate this text at the last lesson (ìîã).

c) permission

I may (am allowed to) work in the laboratory (ìîãó, èìåþ ðàçðåøåíèå).

You will be allowed to work in the laboratory next week (ðàçðåøàò).
