While reading the text for the first time find answers to the following questions: I. What is the general subject of the text? II. Who suggested that most managers share some qualities? III. How many characteristics do successful managers have?
To be a manager requires more than a title, a big office and other outward symbols of a high order. To a great extent, effective managers are made, not born. That is, management skills can be and are learnt by people of all backgrounds. However, J. Sterling Levington suggested that suuccessful managers tend to share the following three qualities:
At the most general level, successful managers tend to have four characteristics: 1. They take enormous pleasure and pride in the growth of their people 2. They are basically cheerful optimists - someone has to keep up morale when obstacles occurs. 3. They don't promise more than they can deliver. 4. When they move on from a job; they always leave the situation a little better than it was when they arrived.
