“Plastic money” is the name for credit cards, like Visa or American Express. There are also cash cards (for autobanks) and cheque cards, which people have to show when they write a cheque. How can people use these cards in your country?

Do you think "plastic money" will ever replace cash completely?

- The meaning of the expression “hard currency”.

- Two credit cards which are usable world-wide.

- Imports that most countries impose customs duties on.

- The coins and bank-notes used in your country and in the English speaking countries.

- Hello. I'm from Germany, and I'm staying in England for a year. I want to open an account here. What documents do I need, please?

- Right. We need to see your passport and a letter from your employer or your place of study if you're a student.

- Right. Is that all?

- That's all, yes.

- Thank you.

- Good afternoon, sir. Can I help you?

- Yes, I'd like to change some Swedish money please.

- Certainly, sir. How much?

- Two hundred crowns.

- Is it in traveler's cheques?

- No, in cash.

- Well, the exchange rate for the Swedish crown today is 10 crowns to the pound.

- How much is 200 crowns, then?

- 20 pounds, sir. How would you like it?

- Three five-pound notes and the rest in large silver, please.

- Here you are. Anything else, sir?

- No, thank you. Good-buy.

- Good morning. Can I help you?

- Yes. My name is Black. I'm expecting money from my bank in Montreal.

- By post, cable or telex, sir?

- By telex.

- Just a moment, I'll check it. Are you Jack Brown?

- Quite right.

- Yes. There's 800 dollars from the Royal Bank of Canada, Montreal. Have you got any identification, sir?

- Yes, I've got my passport. Here you are.

- Thank you, sir.
