At the Dentist's

P: D: P: D: P: Good morning, doctor. One of my teeth aches me, it wants treatment. How long it has been troublesome? On and off for the last week, but today the pain seems to be easier. Does this tooth pain you when I touch it like that? No, it doesn't. Then you must have the bad tooth stooped before it gets exposed.

(P – Patient, C – Chemist)

P: C:   P: C:   P: C: P: C: Here is my prescription. Could you make it up for me, please? OK, I'll do it for you straight away. It'll take you some minutes/I'll have it ready for you by 5.30. Thank you. How often should I take it? The doctor said you should take a spoonful, three times a day after meals. It's written on the bottle. How long should I take the mixture? Until you feel better - three or four days perhaps. Thanks a lot. By the way, what do you suggest for sunburn? This ointment should clear up the trouble. Rub in every four hours.

Ex. 5. Act out the following dialogues.

1. – Good morning. My name is Brown. I have an appointment with Mr Smith for 10.30.

– Yes, certainly, Mr Brown. Mr Smith said you'd be coming over. But would you mind waiting a few minutes? Mr Smith's on the phone just now. You shall be called in as soon as he's finished with the call.

2. – When are you having the English exam?

– The day after tomorrow. I'm trembling at the thought. What shall I do?

– Calm yourself. Relax. Are you really so scared?

– No, I'm not. Just excited. That's all.

3.

Doctor: Well, Mr Park. After examining your heart and lungs, I suggest the following. Firstly, you should give up smoking!
Bill: Oh, but Doctor.
Doctor: Secondly, you should avoid drinking beer. I recommend milk instead.
Bill: Milk, but I hate it!
Doctor: Well, your blood pressure is much too high. You should stop drinking coffee in the mornings.
Bill: No coffee either!
Doctor: You are too fat. So you should take long walks in the fresh air. And you should keep to a strict diet for a month.
Bill: Oh, I don't fancy that at all!
Doctor: And how about sports! Well, you should play football or go swimming.
Bill: Oh!
Doctor: And you should follow all my instructions if you don't want to lose even your present state of health.
