III. Word Building

Задание 1. Внимательно изучите материал, это поможет Вам выполнить упражнения.

В английском языке есть характерное явление, суть которого в том, что два слова, относящиеся к разным частям речи, совпадают по форме, т.е. по звучанию и по написанию. Это явление называют «конверсией», от латинского слова convertere – превращать, т.е. в данном случае речь идет о превращении одной части речи в другую. Запомнив одно слово, например, существительное, вы узнаете и родственный этому существительному глагол. Например: work – работа и работать. В русском языке эти части речи отличаются и по написанию и по звучанию.

We work well. – Мы работаем хорошо.

Our work is good. – Наша работа хорошая.

А вот еще несколько примеров.

call – зов и звать

end – конец и заканчивать

hand – рука и вручать

note – заметка, записка и замечать

Задание 2. С помощью англо-русского словаря определите, принадлежат ли нижеследующие слова только к одной части речи или имеют свои аналоги в другой части речи. Запишите слова, которые имеют аналоги и переведите их.
