Characteristic features of the scientific style.
Scientific style aims to prove hypothesis and to describe new phenomena, laws, inventions. Peculiarities: 1) obligatory use of terms. 2) general vocabulary uses indirect logical meaning to avoid ambiguity, bookish and neutral words are used, no colloquialisms. 3) selective use of pronouns: e.g. use of 1 person plural instead of 1 per. singular. 4) syntactically sentences are governed by logical reasoning, characterized by logical sequence, different connectives are used; thus, furthermore, finally. Scientific style aims at the most generalized form of expression and tends to be precise, objective, devoid of individuality, passive voice is used. 5) every scientific text abounds in quotations which are reproduced exactly, precisely 6) scientific text contains diagrams, tables. Within scientific style there is variation into – popular scientific style, aimed to larger audiences, the author explains the terms. The structure is simpler, text is more vivid and attractive. Use of all pronouns, interjections, exclamative sentences emotional words.
