TOPIC 6: Struggle for peace and security in the interwar period

This topic focuses on the issues of peace and security in 1930's, the Brian-Kellogg Pact, the Four-Power Pact and their effects on international relations. We also discuss the admission of the USSR to the League of Nations and Germany's withdrawal from League of Naions and its implications for international peace and security.

 

This topic focuses on the rise of fascism in Italy and Germany, economic woes (hyperinflation and Great Depression) and after-war bitterness as contributing factors to the rise of fascism in Europe. Special focus is provided on the role of Benito Mussolini and Adolf Hitler. We discuss features of fascism, its similarities with and differences from other ideologies, nazism as a variety of fascism focused on biological racism and anti-semitism, foreign policy of National Socialists and militarism and expansionism of fascist states in 1930's.

This topic focuses on the start of military aggression by Germany, the Anschluss, the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, invasion of Poland, and creation of the triangle of aggressive states: Berlin-Rome-Tokyo. We discuss the course of the war, operation Barbarossa, Russia's entry into the war, attack of the Pearl Harbor, USA's entry into the war, wartime conferences and the victory of the allies. Also Japan after the World War II and bombing of Hiroshima-Nagasaki is discussed.
