TOPIC 10: Collapse of the colonial system and third-world countries in the system of international relations TOPIC 9: Yalta-Potsdam system of international relations This lecture focuses on formation of the Yalta-Postdam system of international relations, the post-war conferences and the new world order, Bretton-Woods conferences, and creation of the United Nations. Also foreign policy of the USSR, Berlin Blockade, creation of the Soviet sattelite states in Eastern Europe and fear of the spread of communism by western Europe and the USA is discussed. Further we discuss creation of the NATO and signing of the Warsaw Pact.
This lecture focuses on national freedom revolutions in the post-world war II period and collapse of colonialism. We discuss the role of the United Nations in assisting to transition of the new states from colonialism to independence and creation of the United Nations Trusteeship Council. We discuss the independence and partition of India, colonial wars and struggle for independence in African countries with the special focus on Zaire and its leader Patrice Lumumba, independence of Southeast Asian states with a special focus on Indonesia and its leader Sukarno.
This topic focuses on the rise of tensions between the USA a nd USSR, Cuban Missile Crisis and its effects on the relations between the two states are discussed. We discuss the Cuban Missile Crisis in detail, examine the causes, position of Fidel Castro, review diplomatic efforts by the USA and USSR to resolve the crisis, blockade of Cuba, positions and roles of Kennedy and Khrushev in resolving the crisis. We discuss the arms race during the Cold War and the bipolar world relations.
