THE PREDICATE

The Predicate is the second principal part of the sentence wich expresses an action, state, or quality of the person or non-person denoted by the subject.

 

 

The Object is a secondary part of the sentence which completes or restricts the meaning of a verb or sometimes an adjective, a word denoting state, or a noun.

*Complex Object: Objective Infinitive Construction: I heard you come in.

For-to-Infinitive Construction: I'm waiting for you to say smth on the subject.

Objective Participial Construction: John had us laughing all through the meal.

Gerundial Construction: I remember our meeting him last year.
