HOTEL BOOKING AND CHECKING-IN

Fill in the gaps and practice the dialogue with your partner.

Now take your partner's form and act as a customs officer (your partner is a guest in the country). Try to be strict and find out if a guest was sincere completing the form.

 

IMMIGRATION INSPECTOR: Good morning. Where have you come ?

TADASHI NAKAMURA: Tokyo, Japan.

IMMIGRATION INSPECTOR: Fine. May I your passport?

TADASHI NAKAMURA: Here are.

IMMIGRATION INSPECTOR: What's the nature of your visit?

TADASHI NAKAMURA: Business. I'm visiting my company's West Coast office.

IMMIGRATION INSPECTOR: And how are you staying in the United States?

TADASHI NAKAMURA: About three weeks.

IMMIGRATION INSPECTOR: Fine. Here's your passport back.

TADASHI NAKAMURA: Thank you.

IMMIGRATION INSPECTOR: to the United States. Enjoy your stay.

 

 

1. Write short answers to these questions:

Do you often have to stay at hotels?

a. Was it always easy to book a room at a hotel and to check in?

- abroad

- in our country

b. What questions do you usually ask and are asked by phone or at Front Desk?
Now compare your answers with those of your partner.

 

Front Desk Clerk: Studious Inn Hotel. Can I help you?

Consuela Rodriguez: Yes. Do you have any vacancies starting tonight?

Front Desk Clerk: Yes, ma'am, we do. How long would you like to stay?

Consuela Rodriguez: For four nights.

Front Desk Clerk: What kind of room would you like?

Consuela Rodriguez: A single, if possible, with bath.

Front Desk Clerk: Let me see ... Oh, yes, we have a single room with bath for Monday.

Consuela Rodriguez: I'll be checking in rather late, I'm afraid, at about 11 p.m. You will hold

the room for me, won't you?

Front Desk Clerk: Yes, I can hold it for you until 11 p.m. with no obligations on your part.

Can I have your name please?

Consuela Rodriguez: Yes, Consuela Rodriguez.

Front Desk Clerk: Well, do you know how to get here?

Consuela Rodriguez: Yes, I do, thanks.

Front Desk Clerk: Fine. We'll have the room for you.

Consuela Rodriguez: Thank you very much.
