1. British religious history:

– Early days: Druids and acceptance of Christianity;

– Tudors' time: reformation of the Church;

– Stuarts' time: Catholic-Protestant struggle.

2. Religion in contemporary Britain:

– Different Christian churches: Church of England, Church of Scotland, Free Churches, Roman Catholic Church;

– Non-Christian religions.

3. British people:

– The way of forming the nation;

– Peculiarities which characterise people as the British by nation.

1. Give Russian equivalents to the following words and combinations of words and explain them:

Protestants, Catholics, Dissenters, Puritans, Nonconformists;

an Archbishop, a bishop, senior bishop, ‘suffragan bishop', a diocese, a cathedral, a dean, a canon, a parish, a vicar, a priest, a rector, a curate, a deacon;

High church and Low Church, the General Synod, the Scottish Kirk, the General Assembly, Moderator, the Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster, the Duke of Norfolk.

2. Compare different Christian Churches existing in the United Kingdom and find the features of difference.

3. Make up a description of a typical British man.
