1. Listen to a talk between a grandmother and her grandson. She's giving him some advice. Where is he going to?(New Headway Intermediate)

2. E-books(bbc.co.uk./ 6 Minute English).

Are you a keen reader? Which do you prefer: traditional or on-line reading? Why?

a) You are going to listen to the programme in which Kate and Rebecca are talking about books and reading. Answer the following questions:

1. Is Rebecca a keen reader?

2. What advantages and disadvantages of e-books are mentioned?

3. How is an old book which looks as though it has been read by many people called:

a) cat-tailed

b) dog-eared

c) mouse-nosed

b) Listen to the programme again. What do the following words mean?

Luddite, concept adjustment, antiquarian, sacred.

Are you a luddite? Who is a luddite in your family?

What's your attitude to e-books? Do you think they will really become obsolete?

 

3. Teenagers and parents(New Headway Intermediate)

The teenage years can be difficult for both: parents and their children. What problems can teenagers have? Write a list of them.

You are going to listen to Laura and Megan aged 14 and 15. What are some of the things they like / don't like about being a teenager?

Laura's parents are called Malcolm and Barbara. What are some of the things they have to do / don't have to do?

Who has easier life: Barbara or Malcolm? What about your parents?
