<…>В феврале прибавляется день, выше поднимается солнце. А в самые солнечные дни лес заполняют птичьи голоса. На солнечном пригреве шумит стайка воробьёв. По-весеннему стрекочут сороки и чаще улетают из населённых пунктов в лес, рассаживаются на ветвях и перекликаются между собой, <…> Поёт, точно играет на крохотной скрипочке королёк; <…>

<…> Догорает багряный закат, и наступает холодная звёздная ночь. А к утру мороз окутает деревья, кусты и былинки блестящим инеем. Выпавший снег сверкает и переливается розово-красным светом. Дремлет затихший лес. Тихо стоят деревья, точно боясь пошевелиться и нарушить свой нарядный сказочный убор.
