WRITING

1. Do some research and write an essay about history of trade unions in your country. Consider the following points: When were they first founded? Have they always been legal? When did they have hay days and downfalls? Has their importance increased or decreased nowadays?

Read the text and write an abstract to it. Use the clichés in Appendix.

Most of the students are members of the University Students' Trade Union. In your essay describe advantages and disadvantages of trade union membership.

We use the Past Simple Tense to talk about activities in the past. Typical past time markers include: yesterday, ago, at that time, in 2006 etc.

Very often past simple ends in –ed (regular verbs):

She passed her examination because she studied very hard.

Butmany verbs are irregular. The past simple does not ends in –ed. For example:

Write – wrote Mozart wrote more than 600 pieces of music.

Go – went I went to the theatre every month.
