T. Air terminals provide all necessary services for the passengers.

S. First of all there are the ticket sales, reservations service and check-in desks. T. Quite right. What else is provided for at the air terminal for passengers' convenience?

S. Then there is an inquiry office and such conveniences as loun­ges, buffets, restaurants, a nursery, a first-aid room, gift shops, news-stands and some others.

T. Large airports have individual lounge areas at every gate. Haven't you forgotten the meaning of this term?

s. No, we haven't. It means "выход на посадку", doesn't it?

Т. Exactly so. Among the innovations helping to improve passenger handling there are fingers telescoping out to the door of the aircraft.

S. Oh, we have seen them at Sheremetyevo International Airport in Moscow.

T. Yes, right you are. I should also name the mobile lounges (передвижные залы ожидания. (накопители), moving sidewalks and automated people movers (пассажирские транспортеры). S. As for the last ones couldn't we see them at Leningrad Pulkovo airport?

S. Yes, of course. That is just what I mean. And one more point to mention is the baggage handling problem. To meet the requi­rements of the growing air traffic, especially at peak hours, automatic luggage conveyor systems have been developed. They may be operated mechanically, electrically and even electronically.
