THE ROLES OF THE TEACHER AND THE STUDENTSDate: 2015-10-07; view: 515. Controlled Practice Word Check Transfer Controlled Practice Presentation Introduction ORGANIZATION OF MATERIAL There are 16 units (see Contents page). Each unit consists of: A short written introduction to the topic of the unit, often introducing key vocabulary. Highlighting and explanation of language items. Exercises designed to practise the language items introduced in the Presentation. Pairwork, or occasionally group work, designed to encourage the students to use the language introduced and to be practised in a context. A glossary of the technical vocabulary that appears in the listening passage. In the second part of the book is the Key Section for each unit. This contains: Answers to the controlled practice exercises. Transfer(where necessary) Information for pair work activities. The Vocabularyat the back of the book provides art alphabetical glossary of important words which appear in the units. The materials provide the teacher with an opportunity to strike a balance between two classroom roles: teacher-controlled and teacher-monitored. They also give students an opportunity for autonomous learning (self-access). Sections 1, 2, and 4 (Presentation, Controlled Practice, and Word Check) can be done with or without a teacher. Section 3 (Transfer) can be done by students in pairs or groups without a teacher, but some form of teacher monitoring is advisable.
