N. What are you laughing at?

A. I've been telling John what happened to one of our boys in summer.

N. You mean Pete? Yes, a very good story it was.

J. And what happened to Pete?

A. You see, in the mountainous region chutes and flumes are used for log transportation.

N. But now these methods are being replaced by new ones.

A. Nick means wire cables that are stretched across valleys and canyons.

J. Oh, yes, I know. The logs are hung from a pulley and then, by gravity, move to the lower end of the cable.

N. Yes, just the thing. Pete decided to take a place of a log. Being not so heavy as it should be, he stopped in the middle of the way.

A. And the boys had to pull him back. I don't consider this accident a good story. I can imagine Pete's feelings when he was hanging directly above the bottom of the canyon. Shame on you, Nick!

N. What have I to do with that accident?

A. And who was provoking the boy, “Pete, I can't believe you can cross the canyon?”

N. I am not to blame. It's the lumbering enterprise that uses such primitive methods.

As a matter of fact such methods are still used in many countries because they are cheap. Cable transportation is common in such highly developed country as the USA.
