Ex.4. Work in pairs. Approve/disapprove of the activities of the US Presidents mentioned above (Exercise 3).

A. Could you tell us about the Carter Center? Where is the Carter Center located?

B. The Carter Center is located in a park approximately two miles east of downtown Atlanta. There are four circular interconnected pavilions which house offices for the former president and first lady and most of the Center's staff.

A. As far as I know, the center was founded by former US President Jimmy Carter and former First Lady Rosalynn Carter. Does the center have any mission?

B. Well, the Carter Center does have a mission. In the first place, it is the commitment to human rights. Since its foundation, the Center has helped to improve the quality of life for people in more than 70 countries. The activities are aimed at preventing and resolving conflicts, enhancing freedom and democracy, and improving health.

A. I heard that lots of people take an active part in the work of the center. Is that really true?

B. There is no doubt about that. More than a hundred undergraduate and graduate students work as interns with Center programs for academic credit or practical experience each year. About a hundred and fifty volunteers donate on average one day of their time each week to the Center. They work with program staff, assist with special events, and conduct select private tours.

A. Thank you.
