Interviewing TipsDate: 2015-10-07; view: 437. You have got an interview for a job – good! So now for the hard work. To do well at an interview you need to put in some thought first. Here are some general advice for you. Before the interview - Find out what you can about the firm. - Find out the interviewer's name and telephone number. - Find out where the interview is. - Find out how long it will take to get there. - Make sure you know what the job involves. - Get plenty of sleep the night before the interview. - Don't eat a big meal before the interview. - Try to relax before and during the interview. - Dress to look clean and tidy. At the interview - Arrive early. Phone if you are held up. - Be polite and try to smile, give a firm handshake (ladies too). - Be confident and make the interviewer think that you are a self-confident person. - Listen carefully and make sure that you answer the question that the interviewer asked. - Take a moment to digest the questions. - Don't be afraid to start over. - Nod to acknowledge understanding. - Make eye contact with the interviewer between 50% and 75% of the time. - Use pauses effectively. - Don't panic, even if faced by more than one person. - Try to prepare yourself for any potentially sensitive questions. - Don't give one word answers or say you don't care what you do. - Show interest in the job and ask questions. - Don't speak negatively about anyone. - Don't fidget, i.e. don't bite your lip, chew on pen, stare. - Breathe! At the end of the interview you should thank the interviewer for the time spent on you. The interviewer will tell you what the next step will be.
