Work in groups of three. Study the information to complete the table on cable types used in home networks. Present your information to the group.

subcontractor –any company that provides goods or services for another one

component –any of the pieces or parts that make up a product

outsourcing or contracting out –buying products or processed materials from other companies rather than manufacturing them

capacity –the maximum rate of output that can be achieved from a production process

inventory –the stock of any item or resource used in an organization (including raw materials, parts, supplies, work in process and finished products)

lead time –the time needed to perform an activity (i.e. to manufacture or deliver something)

economies of scale –the advantage that a big factory, shop etc has over a smaller one because it can spread its fixed costs over a larger number of units and therefore produce or sell things more cheaply

deteriorate –to become worse

depreciation –when the value of something goes down, usually gradually

obsolescence –when a product, system etc is becoming no longer useful because something better is available, possible etc

just-in-time production –when parts are delivered just before they are needed in the process of producing something

credit to –toattribute to somebody

quota –an amount of something that is officially allowed or expected in a particular period of time

assets -something belonging to an individual or a business that has value or the power to earn money

half-finished goods –goods that have not been made completely

throughput time–the timeof production cycle

set-up time–the time when something is organized or arranged

production run –a batch of goods, consignment of goods; production cycle
