TO PUT - TO PLACE - TO LAY

TO PUT – перемещать что-либо на другое определенное место, не указывая каким методом.

Например:

He put the book on the table.

Did you put milk in my tea?

TO PLACE – положить что-либо (аккуратно и осторожно) в определенное место. Смысл в том, что эта вещь потом находится на своем фиксированном, закрепленном за этой вещью месте. Глагол to place является более официальным.

Например:

Take the vase and place it carefully on the table.

TO LAY – положить что-либо на поверхность, в лежачее положение.

Например:

Who will lay the carpet?

He laid the hand on my shoulder.
