Christianity

- is a monotheistic religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth as presented in the New Testament;

- is the world's largest religion (represents about a quarter to a third of the world's population);

- is the state religion of several countries;

- today, has between 1.5 billion and 2.2 billion adherents.

Christians generally believe Jesus is the Son of God, God having become human and the savior of humanity. Because of this, Christians commonly refer to Jesus as Christ or Messiah. Jesus' mission is sacrificial death and subsequent resurrection, It is often referred to as the Gospel message. In short, the Gospel is information of God, the Father's eternal victory over evil and the promise of salvation and eternal life for all people.

The four primary divisions of Christianity are Roman Catholicism, the Orthodox Church, Anglicanism, and Protestantism.

- is a communion of the Western church and 22 Eastern Catholic churches.

- is the second largest major group of Christians after Catholicism in number of followers;

- separated from the Catholic Church in the 16th-century Reformation and split in many denominations.

- a special grouping descended from the Church of England and organized in the Anglican Communion;

- some Anglican churches consider themselves both Protestant and Catholic.
