It is very important for everybody to make the right choice of profession. And it is no wonder because there are a lot of honourable professions at your disposal to obtain. I have known for a long time that leaving school is the beginning of my independent life, the beginning of a far more serious examination of my abilities and character. As the years passed I changed my plans a lot of times about which university to enter or what field of industry to specialize in.

Last year I finally decided what to do. My parents and school teachers helped me to choose my profession. I'm going to become a doctor's assistant. I consider this profession to be very noble, difficult and interesting. Doctor's assistants typically obtain medical histories, perform examinations and procedures, order treatments, diagnose diseases, prescribe medication, order and interpret diagnostic tests, refer patients to specialists as required, and provide first or second-assist in surgery.

I am a student of the Medical College on the basis of Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University, one of the most famous higher medical schools in our country. I love my university life. You have to live it if you really want to feel what it is like. You go to classes, spend time with your groupmates, go to hospitals where you meet patients and try to learn how to communicate with them. After classes you have things connected with your study: to prepare hometasks, to go to the library, to visit anatomy theatre. The day finishes late. You go to sleep and next morning everything starts from the beginning. Isn't it great!?

The academic year begins on September the 1^st and is divided into two terms. At the end of each semester the students have to pass examinations and tests. The curriculum includes theoretical and clinical subjects. For the first two years we study pre-clinical subjects such as: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Social Sciences, Latin and so on. We also study Human Anatomy, Physiology, Histology, and Microbiology. The students have practical course at therapeutic, surgical and other departments in hospitals and clinics. We are taught how to take and record the patient's case history, to carry on medical examination of the patient, to make diagnosis, to prescribe treatment and carry on different medical procedures. There are all facilities for talented students to carry on research work. They attend scientific societies at different departments where they are offered modern guidelines for research activity.

Medical students must understand well all the difficulties of their future profession. To treat patients is a great art but not an ordinary trade. The profession of a doctor's assistant is the one which requires a real calling for it.
