A. Subject: Your request for change in vocation dates to July 8-12 You reasons for requesting a change in vocation dates are quite reasonable and certainly deserve consideration. In evaluating them I must consider more than merit. I must also follow the rules carefully, specified in the contract agreement between the company and the union. These rules specify that no more than 10 percent of any department's workers can be on vocation at one time. This means a maximum of two for your department. The contract also specifies that seniority will determine vocation priorities. In addition to you, both Rita Grand (18 years) and Beatrice Plank (14 years) have requested vocations for July 8-21. Because both of them have more services than your 10 years, the best I can do for you is give you July 22- August 4 period. Please consider these dates. Then let me know if they are satisfactory. I assure you that I'll do whatever I am permitted to help you with your vocation planning.
B. Subject: Your professional development Do you know any of these people – Monica Chavez, Hol Worley, Michael Dobbs, Pam Hawley, Brand Benton? They are your fellow-employees, and they have two things in common. One, they were recently promoted to highly responsible positions. Two, they have all been participants in our Career Support Program. As you may know, the Career Support Program is the company's way of helping you develop professionally – completely at the company's expense. Through the program the company pays all costs of your participation in the night program at City Tech. All you need to do is to follow the approved curriculum designed to help you professionally and satisfactorily meet course requirements (grade of C or better). You learn, our company pays. I'd like to tell you more about how the Career Support Program can help you. Just drop by my office any time during work hours. I'll give you the details. Although I will not be able to promise you a promotion, I will promise to help you grow professionally.
